RUTHIN CAMERA CLUB PRESS RELEASE 1 – 2019/20
With summer well and truly behind us, Ruthin Camera Club members enjoyed getting together again on 17th September to start the new season. With new Vice Chairman Tony Colclough temporarily in charge, the season’s programme was introduced by Carol Wynne and Phil Durrell, then members socialised over a splendid buffet supper.
The Reverend Doctor Richard Hainsworth, a member of Mold Camera Club, presented his “Shooting the Inside of My Head” the following week. This was a highly personal account of Richard’s passion for photography, with a big emphasis on improving his work by setting himself higher and higher targets – for example, to gain acceptance to an exhibition of status.
On 1st October new Chairman Ray Davies returned to introduce a family show from members Mary and Stuart Carr and Stephen Yates, on “Aspects of Anglesey”, based on their many walks and travels on the island. Much thought and effort had gone into their joint production, with them taking it in turns to present and explain each aspect, and much enhanced by a series of audio-visual shows.
The season’s first competition (an Open one, that is, meaning there is no set subject) was judged by Philip Milton of Cambrian Photography, Colwyn Bay, on 8th October, with the encouraging number of prints on display challenging the customary digital dominance. After considerable circumspection, Philip’s winners were as follows. In the Monochrome Print section, Dan Muckle-Jones “The Boss” (a lion’s face, full framed) took first spot, with Brian Burrows 2nd (“The Challenge”) and Phil O’Loughlin 3rd(“Nature 1 - Man 0”), and supplemented by one Highly Commended award and three more Commended. The best Colour Print was adjudged to be “Bright Eyes” by Jan; Brian Burrows gained second place again, this time with “Mystical Glade”, and 3rd went to Paul Parker’s “Final of the Wirral Cup”. Two members gained Highly Commended and four Commended. Moving on to the Digital Images category, Martin Davies triumphed with “The Race is On”, Stephen Yates came second (“Blue Tit Nesting in a Signpost”) and Jan third with “Frogs in Spawn”. Three members were accorded Highly Commended and three more Commended.
Unfortunately our outside speaker had to cancel because of illness on 15th October, so Phil Durrell filled the breach with “A Taste of Provence”, “Sixty Degrees North” and a mountain bike event at Coed y Brenin, then Ray Davies presented part of an audio-visual created by the club several years ago on “A Year in the Vale of Clwyd”.
Anyone contemplating joining would be very welcome to attend for a few weeks, without obligation. We area friendly, sociable club, which meets on Tuesdays at 7.30 in Tabernacle Chapel, Well Street, Ruthin from September until the end of March.
