RUTHIN CAMERA CLUB SEASON 2017/18 – PRESS RELEASE 1

RUTHIN CAMERA CLUB SEASON 2017/18 – PRESS RELEASE 1

During their “summer break” Ruthin Camera Club members and partners had enjoyed on excellent buffet near Trefnant at the house of incoming Chair Annie Davies, when the evening was warm enough to sit outside. And later in August the Club continued its tradition of providing a display of photos at the Ruthin Flower Show.

It was business as usual on 12th September with the customary Introductory Evening to the new season, when the forthcoming programme was explained by its creators, Carol Wynne (external speakers), Phil O’Loughlin (competitions) and Phil Durrell (in-house evenings). Then members swiftly got down to viewing some quality images by Irene Froy before enjoying another buffet supper.

A second Irene Froy presentation was viewed the following week, supporting the main event: an introduction to the Club’s new website by its authors, Phil O’Loughlin and Catrin Roberts, who dealt with various questions from members.

The season’s first external speaker was Paul Kay on 26th September. Based around Menai Bridge, Paul specialises in marine photography, in particular underwater, showing marine life and plants from North Wales and Scotland. From time to time it’s good to have insights into branches of photography with which most members will be unfamiliar, and this was one such example.

The next week should also have been an external speaker but unfortunately illness prevented his attendance, so member Paul Parker gave a talk on “Cropping” followed by quality images on DVD from across the North Wales photographic community, including some by Ruthin Club members.

Susan Clark from Colwyn Bay judged the first major competition of 2017/18 on 10th October, proving to be a very thoughtful judge who clearly explained what she was looking for as a judge and how well each image measured up. Susan’s winners were: Colour Prints 1 st Phil O’Loughlin with “Inch Kenneth – Isle of Mull”, 2nd Annie Davies and 3 rd Mark Dougal; Monochrome Prints – 1 st Phil O’Loughlin’s “Lismore Lighthouse” (he obviously had a very successful trip to Mull and Oban), 2nd Arwel Williams, 3 rd Ben Jones; Projected Digital Image – 1 st Annie Davies with “Out of the Clouds”, 2nd Stephen Yates and 3 rd Martin Davies. Worthy winners and several commendations were also given.
